Biography

Sophia Ty is an undergraduate researcher at the Center for Computational Oncology under Dr. Tom Yankeelov. She is pursuing a dual degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biochemistry at the Cockrell School of Engineering and the College of Natural Sciences. Her research interests lie in two broad domains: 1) the development of early detection tools and paradigms for cancer diagnostics, and 2) applications of computational frameworks for analyzing and predicting response to cancer therapies. Her current project applies mathematical models to predict spatiotemporal patterns of breast cancer cell response to chemotherapy. Outside of research, Sophie serves as the senior peer advisor for the BME department and is an active peer mentor for the Women in Engineering Program. When not in the lab, you can find her sipping cappuccinos at coffee shops, trying new food trucks, taking architectural photographs, storyboarding sci-comm content, or dabbling with digital design.
